Gateways Pre-Orientation Programs

The Gateways Pre-Orientation Program at University of Tampa is designed to help incoming first-year and transfer students build meaningful connections, develop key personal and professional skills, and gain a strong foundation for success in college and beyond. Through immersive, hands-on experiences, students engage in interactive learning, explore career pathways, and build a sense of belonging within the СÓÅÊÓƵampa community. Participants choose from three unique Nexus tracks, each tailored to provide experiential learning and personal growth opportunities.

This cohort-based program will utilize a variety of Spartan Ready competencies in creative and innovative ways to support students' transition to СÓÅÊÓƵampa on one of three tracks outlined below.

СÓÅÊÓƵampa's Gateways Pre-Orientation programs are scheduled to take place on Aug. 19-21, 2025.

Camp Spartan:

The Camp Spartan track challenges students to step outside their comfort zones through outdoor adventure experiences while exploring the ways personal growth is shaped by both the natural environment and their college community. Through activities like kayaking, ziplining, and team-based challenges, students will build resilience, leadership skills, and a deeper connection to themselves and others. Additionally, the program will incorporate discussions on social responsibility, environmental ethics, and how access to outdoor spaces impacts communities.

*A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university.

СÓÅÊÓƵampa Spark:

The СÓÅÊÓƵampa Spark track is designed for students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) who want to explore career opportunities and innovations shaping the Tampa Bay area. Through hands-on experiences, industry site visits, and conversations with professionals, students will gain insights into how STEAM fields drive progress and solve real-world challenges. Additionally, students will explore how STEAM innovations improve lives through advancements in technology, healthcare, and sustainable solutions.

СÓÅÊÓƵampa Nexus:

The СÓÅÊÓƵampa Nexus track is designed to explore the intersection of sports, philanthropy and career opportunities within the nonprofit sector of the sports industry. Students will gain insight into how professional and collegiate sports teams contribute to community development, youth programs and social initiatives while also learning about diverse career pathways in the field. This hands-on experience includes facility tours, conversations with industry professionals and an emphasis on personal wellness strategies that are essential for success in high-energy sports environments.
