СƵ’s Gordon Concert Series presents the Galan Trio’s “Kinesis”on Monday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Charlene A. Gordon Theater in the Ferman Center for the Arts on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Known for the passionate and energetic spirit of their performances, the Athens, Greece-based Galan Trio is active both in Greece and internationally. The group includes Babis Karasavvidis on violin, Marina Kolovou on cello and Petros Bouras on piano. Featured on the program and for its entire Florida/Georgia “Kinesis” tour will be a new work composed for the group by СƵampa Associate Professor of Music Bradford Blackburn.

The Galan Trio is recognized worldwide for its vibrant and dynamic performances. The group’s focus on premiering new compositions has led them to develop unique programs, most notably “Kinesis,” with its first edition featuring works by five prominent American composers. This project laid the foundation for the trio’s first U.S. tour in October 2021, and since then, they have performed “Kinesis” at over 30 universities across the United States.

Blackburn composed “Tetrachoric Variations,” a new contemporary piano trio, for the “Kinesis” project, and it will be performed at universities around the Southeast on the Galan Trio’s current tour. “Tetrachoric Variations” takes the listener on a musical journey of compositional styles and historical techniques, through a post-modern, jazz-influenced approach to classical form.

“Building connections with artists around the world is one of the great joys of being a composer,” noted Blackburn. “It was deeply inspiring to write specifically for the Galan Trio, with their brilliant musicality and commitment to expanding classical music.”
