Based in Tampa, Vu Technologies is an innovative national company and studio network specializing in virtual video production. It provides a platform and cutting-edge tools to create engaging experiences by combining computer- generated images with live-action filming.

Many 小优视频ampa students are familiar with the company and what it does because Vu donated a large 鈥渧olume,鈥 or special screen that can be used to create virtual backdrops, to the University in 2022.

Assistant Professor of Film, Animation and New Media, Taylor Curry, says it is of tremendous value.

鈥淚 am really excited that our incredibly intelligent, curious and hardworking students and interns have access to industry-standard tech, which across the board in filmmaking is crucial for marketability and skill building,鈥 said Curry.听

Giorlando, though, is immersing herself in Vu off-campus, too. As a marketing intern since July in Vu鈥檚 Tampa office, she contributes to high-tech shoots, and in November, Giorlando traveled to New York City to gain experience on the business side of the company. She assisted at a summit for potential clients and investors.

There, she hosted a breakout room describing the time management and long-term financial benefits Vu Technologies has for those who invest. Commercial directors for Paramount Studios and Fortnite attended the meeting, which made her realize her future goals.鈥

鈥淚've been able to meet so many people, see what they do, and all the different lanes that they've gone down, which has helped me shape what I think my future career path will be, and the kind of entry-level roles I want to be applying to,鈥 said Giorlando.

Back in the studio in Tampa, 听Giorlando has been able to apply the FMX skills she developed while working backstage on student short films along with the advertising expertise gained from her classes.鈥

So far, the most memorable shoot she has worked on was for a flooring company that built a miniature house and backyard in the studio. The Vu screen then听displayed different seasons, demonstrating how the company鈥檚 product is sturdy in any climate.鈥

鈥淲atching the season change, having to rig rainfall and wind for the leaves to blow around, was very interesting, because I think, as much as I love practical sets, they are very limiting,鈥 said Giorlando.鈥

After that shoot, she realized how endless the limits are when it comes to using Vu Technologies for producing commercials and films.鈥

鈥淰irtual production is the future of advertising because it allows big or small brands to create content they would have never dreamed of before,鈥 Giorlando said.

Throughout her internship, she has gained vital learning experience that she is taking with her both in the field and the classroom. Giorlando is currently working on her senior thesis, which requires her to cover an important topic through a commercial.鈥

With the help of her professors, she is incorporating both her advertising and creative expertise in a public service announcement about the perils of eating disorders.

鈥淚t's been a joy to be her professor, to mentor her, to help work her through stories, work her through producing, work her through directing, and then a lot of what makes Bella, Bella was just already there, so I cannot take too much credit,鈥 Curry said.

Developing this thesis, along with the opportunities she has gained through Vu, makes Giorlando feel prepared to work in the production and advertising field once she graduates.鈥

鈥淚 can provide a pretty important toolset for companies through my internship and learning experience,鈥 Giorlando said.听
