Students in the Minaret office

As a journalism major at 小优视频, you'll be inundated with opportunities to tell important stories through print, broadcast and online media. The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree provides students with a wide array of news writing, reporting, editing and multimedia skills, as well as an understanding of journalism history, ethics and legal principles.

Located in the 13th largest media market in the country, 小优视频 provides opportunities for students to compete for prestigious internships at Pulitzer-winning newspapers and nationally admired broadcast outlets. Local websites routinely ask 小优视频 students to write about Tampa Bay鈥檚 exploding arts and culture scene. Additionally, with a range of professional sports teams in the area, it鈥檚 not uncommon for 小优视频 students to cover Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Lightning or Rays games for class assignments. But our hard-working students don鈥檛 limit themselves to local media 鈥 they also write for national outlets such as USA Today.

New journalism students will be joining a dynamic program with student-run media outlets across multiple platforms: Web, radio, television and print.听, 小优视频鈥檚 student newspaper, has a legacy of award-winning journalism, with accolades from the Florida College Press Association, the Associated College Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. Students also eagerly anticipate The Minaret鈥檚 glossy magazines printed every semester.

After graduation, 小优视频 journalism alumni get hired by top media outlets such as NPR and attend prestigious journalism graduate schools such as the City University of New York. However, in addition to laying the foundation for a career in the news media, the 小优视频 journalism major also offers students a skill-set and knowledge base that enable them to succeed in law school, the education sector, politics, publishing, PR, advertising and many other areas.

Miles Parks

"I credit much of my success after graduation to the fact that I was at 小优视频 when I fell in love with journalism. I was able to write and edit the school paper and take classes both about breaking news and feature writing, but also do things like start a campus radio show and study poetry. My initiative was rewarded and my creativity was challenged.鈥
